We welcome applications from strings, piano, woodwind and French horn players who would like to perform chamber music works with fellow participants and camp faculty members! Pre-formed ensembles are encouraged to apply!

RETREAT DETAILS
Located in a picturesque Northern Minnesota, our 6-day long Retreat offers a unique experience of meeting likeminded classical music enthusiasts and performing alongside internationally renowned musicians in the heart of Northwoods.
Each participant will be assigned to two different chamber music groups: one with fellow participants (pre-formed groups are welcome to apply for the Retreat!), and one with fellow participants AND a faculty member, to facilitate music collaboration and artistic communication between the participants and their coaches. Pre-formed ensembles will receive daily coachings from TCCC members and guest artists.
Repertoire will be tailored to the size, instrumentation and experience of the participants. The Retreat will be concluded with a performance of all chamber music groups.

Flute & Body Mapping

Melanie M. Sever is an active freelance musician, recitalist, lecturer, conductor, and teaches flute and music courses at the University of Wisconsin-Superior and The College of St. Scholastica. She is currently acting principal flute with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and serves as the Administrative Director of the Duluth Superior Symphony Youth Orchestras program. Melanie also conducts the DSSYO Concert Orchestra and is founder/director of the North Wind Flute Choir.
Projects have included community outreach with master classes to public schools, Latin American Music and Culture performance/presentations with Columbian bassist Nixon Bustos, and regional performances with the DSSO Woodwind Quintet and other chamber ensembles.
An advocate of performance health for musicians, Melanie teaches Body Mapping (www.bodymap.org) and is active with the Biotensegrity Interest Group. She has over 30 years of private teaching experience as well as being on staff for flute clinics, public school programs, summer camps and as a panel judge for competitions.

A native of Voronezh, Russia, pianist Alyona A. Waldo has pursued an accomplished and versatile career as a chamber musician, collaborative pianist, and educator. Recent engagements include faculty artist at the Clazz International Music Festival in Arcidosso, Italy, concert soloist with the Edgewood Chamber Orchestra, and collaborative pianist for faculty and student recitals at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Mead Witter School of Music.
Alyona has performed across the U.S., Europe, and Asia as a member of the cello/piano team A.W.Duo. As a chamber musician, performance highlights include Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC, performances with cellist Sara Sant’Ambrogio at the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival, and New York City venues including Carnegie Hall, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Polish, Russian and French Consulates, and Lincoln Center.
Alyona was pianist of the Listen Closely chamber music initiative, presenting concerts of historical and newly-commissioned works for the people of uptown Manhattan. In Russia, Alyona was winner of the Gavrilin Governor's International Competition, the finalist of the International Gnessin Piano Competition in Moscow, and concert soloist with the Voronezh Academic Symphony Orchestra. Other notable positions include staff pianist for the La Lingua Della Lirica Festival in Novafeltria, Italy; faculty of the International Piano Festival in Portland, ME; and staff pianist for Mannes Preparatory Division.
She received her Master of Music degree from Mannes College, the New School for Music (NYC), under the tutelage of Vladimir Feltsman and Pavlina Dokovska. Now living in Madison, WI, Alyona is active as a collaborative pianist and music educator.

Violinist Michelle Skinner has gained recognition across the United States for her sensitive musicianship in styles ranging from the baroque to contemporary.
Ms. Skinner is associate concertmaster of the Miami-based contemporary chamber orchestra, Nu Deco Ensemble. She served as Principal Second Violin of the Amarillo Symphony for 9 seasons and has performed with orchestras such as Atlanta Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Sarasota Orchestra, and Naples Philharmonic. She has served as concertmaster under the baton of notable conductors Leon Fleisher and Marin Alsop and appeared as soloist most recently with the Amarillo Symphony, the Southern Illinois Music Festival, and the New Chicago Chamber Orchestra.
Beyond her expertise as a classical violinist, Ms. Skinner has been featured with today’s most popular artists, most notably serving as concertmaster on Bad Bunny’s Most Wanted Tour across North America. Ms. Skinner is a passionate advocate of arts education. In addition to maintaining her full private violin studio, she is the Director of Nu Deco NXT, an innovative Miami-based youth ensemble.
Ms. Skinner was a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival from 2011-2014. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Wheaton College Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music and Graduate Performance Diploma in Violin Performance from the Peabody Institute.

We are located in Grand Rapids, MN, a small town surrounded by Minnesota’s nature. Explore the beauty of Northwoods while making music and expanding your chamber music repertoire.
All classes and rehearsals will take place at the Reif Performing Arts Center.

$450 (includes a $50 nonrefundable registration fee)
$350 - for Itasca Orchestra & Strings Program members ONLY
What does it cover?
- daily classes, access to a rehearsal space, access to an instrument (for pianists)
- additional events admission fees (concerts, guest artist talks, Drumming Circle etc.
- sheet music & other necessary materials
- Retreat opening day breakfast, final day after-concert reception
Accommodation
For participants who do not reside in Grand Rapids or the closest area we provide accommodation options (paid in addition to the Retreat tuition) - limited slots are available at discounted rates on a first come first serve basis. Participants will be requested to select their preferable option in our application form while registering for the Retreat.

Community Orchestra Members, Music Educators, College Students, and Adult Musicians ( 18+) with 3 or more years of experience are eligible to apply.

Please, note the video is not an AUDITION and does not need to be perfect - it will simply help us place you in the ensemble that will be best for your level of experience and musicianship, and will ensure satisfactory musical collaboration and learning process.
