Matthew Honas - composer

Lauded for his emotional sensitivity, dramatic lyricism, and seamless integration of new techniques within traditional and innovational structures, Matthew Honas creates original, thrilling works which challenge the performer while showcasing their virtuosity. Stemming from his interest in his heritage, Matthew draws inspiration from the music of the Wolgadeutsche, Bukowina Deutsche, Norwegian, and Swedish peoples. A native of Wichita, Kansas, Matthew received a Bachelor of Arts Summa cum Laude in Music Composition and Piano Performance with a minor in German at Kansas State University, a Master’s of Music Composition from UW-Madison, and a Doctorate in Music Composition with a minor in Musicology from UW-Madison. Matthew has studied with Laura Schweindger, Craig Weston, John Harbison, Melinda Wagner, Paul Chihara, Sebastian Currier, James Aikman, and more. Recently, his music was selected to be performed at the premiere concert at the opening of the Hamel Music Center for the Arts in Madison, Wisconsin. Matthew also won the 2020 Mullen Prize for Sacred Music for his piece, Contemplations et Refléxions: Une Priére. His music has been performed at the New York Flute Fair, the Madison Flute Festival, the Moreau Center for the Arts, McCain Auditorium, and the Beach Museum of Art.

Emma Cifrino - Viola

Violist Emma Cifrino recently earned her DMA at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she is now workingon a PhD in historical musicology with a focus on early 20th century British women composers. Originally fromcentral Maine, Emma holds a B.Mus from Lawrence University and an M.Mus from Bowling Green StateUniversity. Career highlights include an appearance on Live From WFMT in Chicago, performing at Early MusicAmerica's Young Performers Festival with the BGSU Early Music Ensemble, and serving as a Resident ArtistFellow at Atlantic Music Festival.

Dafydd Bevil - Horn

Madison based hornist Dr. Dafydd Bevil is the Associate Lecturer of Horn at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Principal Horn of the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra, and performs as a chamber musician, soloist,and clinician throughout the country. Dr. Bevil holds degrees from Louisiana State University, RooseveltUniversity, and The University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Magdalena Sas - Cello

Prize winner of international competitions, Magda performs across Europe, Asia and the Americas, andappeared in renowned concert halls such as Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, BOZAR in Brussels, WitoldLutoslawski Studio in Warsaw, NCPA in Mumbai. She is a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship andPaul Collins Wisconsin Distinguished Fellowship, and a graduate of music conservatories in Poland, Belgium, andAustria.

Magdalena is the Co-founder and Executive Director of the Third Coast Chamber Collective.

Rachel Maske

Rachel grew up in the Madison area in the Norwegian town of Mt Horeb. She has worked for WIDA/School ofEducation for the past ten years in finance with another five years in Facilities, Planning and Management priorto that. Her connection to Norway is through her mom’s side of the family which came from Norway. She spenther junior year of high school in Norway as an exchange student during which time she was able to visit manyfamily members. It was during this time she learned to speak Norwegian. Each fall is spent making many dozenlefse and other Norwegian treats.
