Bonnie Greene, founder and former Executive Director of Madison Music Makers, received her B.A. in music education from the University of Kentucky. Along with a performance career that included violin, viola, piano, and organ, she focused her teaching efforts on bringing the opportunities for music-making to urban children. She has created and administered violin programs for young children in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She played violin with the Milwaukee Symphony, developed and taught in the Alverno College Young Violinists program, served as string coordinator for Milwaukee Public Schools.
Greene held the positions of Administrator and Business Manager for the International Workshops program. She co-directed the Wisconsin Conservatory String Project for music study for underserved youth and served on the committee for the Milwaukee Symphony Educational Project for Minorities. In addition to receiving the Marvin Rabin Award from the national American Strings Teachers Association, and the Artist Teacher Award from the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras, in 2009 she was recognized as a "Fellow" by the Purpose Prize organization, honoring her community service beyond retirement age.
Bonnie’s reputation in music education has made her a popular workshop organizer both locally and nationally. Her work with mentoring young teachers has resulted in her association with UW-Madison, working with both education and performance majors to develop teaching skills, both for the instrument and the particular issues with culturally diverse students. She is the composer and publisher of many works for young string students.
